After School Program - RSHM LIFE Center
After School Program, provides homework assistance and supervised recreational activities for children in kindergarten through 6th grade.
Over 90% of our children speak English as their second language. Here at the
Center the children improve their English skills, as English is spoken unless concepts
need to be explained. Bi-lingual staff assist at all levels. Emphasis is places on good
study habits, the development of social skills, a love of learning and fair play.
Our program is certified by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services. We
work closely with the local school district and meet regularly with parents to ensure we
are meeting the needs of the child and the family. Children who have been involved in
our program for more than two years have a 100% graduation rate.
The After School Program is
divided into two phases at two program sites. The Beekman Avenue site houses the
majority of our program, eighty children in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. Our
Chestnut Street site is a drop-in program for Fifth and Sixth graders needing occasional
academic help. Staff members are assigned to
each classroom in accordance with required staff member-to-child ratios, as established
by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). Each classroom is
staffed with a teacher and enough assistant teachers to ensure that required ratios are
maintained. All staff members hired meet OCFS
established experience, security and education requirements according to position level.
We are also committed to ongoing staff development and training.
